1996Saw this movie during the art gallery nsw film series by hook or by hustle. As a sex worker myself a lot of moments in this were relatable and a lot of the audience was laughing which is funny because once you’re in the groove of working all of the scat fantasy talk etc etc becomes normal (as normal as it can be, at least)
I liked how the main character morphed physically into different characters as a representation Of the many characters sex workers play - dominatrix, girl next door and so on.
Interesting seeing famous people in this such as Naomi Campbell, the guy from sopranos and the Jewish guy from law and order (which his character in the show also has a penchant for sec workers and I wonder does life imitate art?)
Overall great enjoyable film except for the part where sopranos guy starts talking about killing her which is unfortunataly something too many sex workers have to face due to criminalisation, discrimination and isolation. I’m not suspending my disbelief because If New York was decriminalised and had support services I’m sure maybe he could have been blacklisted or arrested sorry for being the fun police but that’s just my opinion
Anyway great movie and would recommend to anyone, sex workers and civilians alike.
